Empowered by the Not A Design Agency Project to create connection, community, and real change.

Our Mission
At 'Not A Statistic Northeast CIC', we understand how difficult it is for people going through life's ups and downs to find a space where they can build connections with others who understand what they’re experiencing.
'Not A Statistic Northeast CIC' was created to help individuals find a safe space to access peer to peer support with a free tea or coffee, biscuits and some laughs along the way. See the Our Sessions page for more details.
Not A Statistic Northeast CIC currently delivers a range of peer-led mental health and wellbeing support services across Sunderland and Washington, providing both daytime and evening support opportunities to help reduce isolation and improve community connection.
We currently run multiple weekly peer support sessions, including evening groups at the Beacon of Light in Sunderland, The Old Rectory in Houghton-le-Spring, and the Washington Millennium Centre in Concord, alongside daytime drop-in sessions across the region. These sessions provide safe, welcoming, non-judgemental spaces where people can talk openly, connect with others, access peer support, or simply spend time around people who understand.
Our daytime drop-in sessions offer a more informal and flexible support environment for those who may struggle to attend evening groups, feel overwhelmed in larger settings, or simply need somewhere safe to go during the day. These sessions help tackle loneliness, social isolation, and poor mental wellbeing by creating opportunities for conversation, routine, peer connection, and community engagement over a coffee and a chat. The relaxed nature of the drop-ins also allows facilitators to provide additional signposting and early intervention support where needed.
Alongside our group sessions, we also provide informal one-to-one support for individuals who may require additional guidance, reassurance, or signposting to appropriate local and national services. Our approach focuses on early intervention, community connection, and reducing barriers to accessing support.
In addition to our direct mental health support services, we also operate the ‘Not A Design Agency’ project - a community-driven creative and digital initiative designed to generate sustainable income for the CIC while providing opportunities for collaboration, creativity, skills development, and social impact across the North East. Income generated through this project directly supports the continuation and expansion of our mental health and peer support services.
Not A Statistic Northeast CIC is, and always will be, open to everyone. Inclusivity remains at the heart of everything we do, helping to remove social barriers, reduce stigma surrounding mental health, and create opportunities for people from all backgrounds to build meaningful connections within their community.
What we do
What to expect at our sessions?
Our Sessions are inclusive to anyone over the age of 16, Any Gender/Identity, Any race,
Any Sexuality, Any background or situation.
'Not A Statistic Northeast CIC' is also a signatory of the Armed forces covenant and commit to all its values. As a Veteran himself, Shane has experienced a wider lack of support prior to and after his service however, He has also experienced some truly inspiring Armed Forces and Veterans charities. (Some of these can be found on our Signposting Page).
We could of focused or offering in to only help specific people however, this feels wrong to us and believe that we all have a lot in common, through our own experiences and by sharing these we can help ourselves and can help others in the process.
